About Counselling

Counselling provides a confidential, safe, reliable and regular space where together with a professional you can explore the issues concerning you.

Counselling usually begins as a place where you can be heard and understood and where you have time to tell your story.

It is a collaborative activity: together we seek to understand more about your history and experiences, who you are, and what you need: often our needs have been pushed down or not fully realised and not having our needs met often explains some of the challenges we have in life.

What is important to me is that we agree on what you would like to achieve from counselling and then work together towards that goal or goals.

Depending on why you have sought counselling, the focus of what we go on to do might be more supportive, exploratory, symptom-oriented, insight-oriented, educational, behavioural, relational, a combination of these or something completely unique for you.

Sometimes therapy can be challenging because we will explore difficult aspects of your history and beliefs, and I will challenge you (if you are okay with that). At the same time I will support and encourage you. I will always treat you with respect and integrity.

Although there are no guarantees, the aim is to help you achieve a better understanding of the nature of your problems, what keeps them going, and how to deal with them in a constructive way, leading to help you live a more satisfying and fulfilling life and relationships.

I work in a relational and integrative way modelling my approach to what best works for you. I am autistic and trans affirmative, kink friendly and specialise in working with complex trauma and its various expressions.

The Initial Meeting

It is important that you find the right therapist for you, so I suggest that we have an initial 30-45 minute session by phone, zoom or in-person where I can understand what you are struggling with and what you want to achieve through counselling. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

Although professional, it will be relaxed and open: it is important that I understand your issues and can work with them and important for you to assess if counselling with me is right for you.

There is no cost for this initial meeting and no obligation to continue. If we decide to continue, we will agree arrangements such as costs and a date and time to meet next.

Making an initial Appointment

You can make an appointment by telephone, e-mail or using the contact form. Once we agree to meet, there is no obligation beyond this initial session.
